Marz is the fourth member of the group, and the one whose work you see without seeing her. The other three stand in front of the cameras. She decides what the cameras see. Fashion and branding run through her: the custom pieces the girls wear, the styling on shoots, the props in the frame, the visual identity that makes everything from this label look like it came from one world. That is her department, and she runs it.
The Name
The name came from her hair. Catherine's red is the real thing, and school did what school does, turned the red-haired girl into Mars, and Mars into Marz, and it stuck for good. By the time the group needed public names, hers had already been road-tested for years. Marz is not a character she puts on. It is what her friends actually call her.
What She Does in the Band
Every band has a sound. This one also has a look, and the look is largely hers.
Marz studies fashion design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, with costume and prop work folded into her range, and the group is where all of it gets exercised at once. She sketches, patterns, and sews custom pieces. She styles the shoots. She builds and sources the objects that fill a frame. And past the individual garments, she carries the branding itself, the sensibility that keeps four different girls with four different styles looking like citizens of the same place. When people say this project feels bigger than a garage band, her work is a large part of what they are responding to.
She does not sing, and never wanted to. Her instrument is the whole picture.
Mars in Danger City
Her name also lives inside the story this label built. In Dolls Play a Dangerous Game there is a girl called Mars, red hair scraped back, moving through the rough edges of the city, one of its survivors. The character was built around her the way the others were built around the girls who sing, with her blessing, wearing her name and her hair. The story tells Mars her own way, on its own pages, and it runs darker than anything here, which suits her. Of the four, she was always the one least afraid of the rough edges.
Her Own Lane
Marz has her own creative life outside the band's work, and it is nothing like her day job. She dances, and she cosplays, building and wearing her own pieces, which for a costume designer is less a hobby and more the craft off its leash. She has a social media page for it. For now, it stays private. She shares that side of herself with the people she chooses, on her own schedule, and if that ever changes it will be her call and nobody else's.
